Alright so we had a formal orientation ceremony where they explained to us everything like the TAs and all that nonsense but I wasn’t really interested in listening. I was more interested in spamming the wifi at the hall. the wifi here is so limited. we have no wifi in dorms which makes whatsapp absolutely useless but then again i have my unlimited sms phone. heh.
This was the lunch they provided for us.
After lunch, we went for the campus tour. Alright, once again I did not pay attention to anything because we were all more interested in introducing one another rather than the tour itself. GOSH, SNU IS SUPER HILLY. omg. when i thought NUS hills were terrible, SNU hills are like incomparable to the hills in NUS. the best part is the shuttle bus doesn’t go everywhere, so people just walk most of the time. RAH. (as i blog, today is like my 1.5 weeks into SNU and I am still breathless when i walk to class)
it’s quite pretty some how, there’s some small pond or something and stuff like that.
until now i’m not sure which is the tallest mountain in SNU. I can see a mountain from my dorm window but there are mountains everywhere. seriously wonder if i will trek up any.
After the tour ended, i grabbed a drink from the convenience shop nearby while we waited for my friend’s roomie and housemate to prepare. After a long discussion of where to go, we have decided to go Han River Cycling since the weather was perfect!
This is the MRT stop to alight!
I didn’t remember this scene in IRIS though. i watched half heartedly. woops.
We went up to this thingy and had ice cream! It was nice!
Cycling was 3,000W per hour! the bicycles are different from the ones in sg. it is really for leisure riding.. not those usual mountain bikes that can speed.. but the nice basket in front is perfect!
I tried my best to take photos while i cycle in order not to be too slow behind.
The weather was perfect, but the Han river wasn’t of nice colour though. But with the wind blowing through your hair as you cycle.. There was no sun too which makes things really fantastic! There’s cycling paths too so you don’t have to worry about anything.. The 1 hour ended very quickly somehow. Happy times tend to past very quickly.
After that, we went to konkuk university stop. It’s a rather bustling place. They decided to introduce to us this street snack called o-deng. 2 sticks for 1,000W.
It kind of reminds me of yong tao foo somehow. it’s like fishcake. It was a cheap and nice snack =D
After that they chose a restaurant which was similar to the one we ate on the second day.. and it was when we realised that we did it all wrong, on the second day. oh wells.
We paid about 6,000W each for dinner (4 of us).
Then we went shopping around the area. Didn’t manage to buy anything but they managed to buy some shoes for 10,000W at some MRT stop which i cannot remember..
So it was like 9 plus and they told us there was nothing much to shop already and brought us back to Metro station and I was like.. maybe they had school which was why they wanted to return early.. But.. apparently not! HA. We took the train to a stop near school, took another bus.. and reached this place. (don’t ask me for directions because I really have no idea)
They brought us to this traditional pub-like place which feels really good when i enter because it was like in a basement so the wind was very chilly yet comforting at the same time. and when we went, there was no one smoking and the air was so fresh.
She ordered this thing called dong-dong-ju which was really good! it’s rice wine and oh my gawd it’s awesome.
i’m not sure if i’m greedy or what but i seem to be drinking the most that night because it was really good. BUT, they told me some of their culture things.. Like the youngest can never be drunk because they have to take care of the older ones.. Both girls hosting us were younger than us! And how we need to use 2 hands to hold the cup.. Things like this are overlooked in sg.. oh wells, i have to learn their culture. And I read something on lonely planet that if you see that someone’s glass is empty, you have to pour for them. If you do not want people would pour for you, you just leave a bit of drink still in the glass. Signalling that you don’t want anymore..
Ohmy, the kimchi pancake was AWESOME. it was so delicious!
I think we paid about 4,000W each for this meal.
After that, since there were 4 of us and the place was rather near to school, we shared a cab back. it was about 950W each. If we have took the bus, it would be 900W each!
We were really glad that my friend’s roomie (korean who is very good in english) and housemate (malaysian) volunteered to bring us around! It was only our 4th day in Seoul and 2nd day in SNU.
It was a really awesome day =D
