Finally! A drama that I have anticipated for so long~~
The last time both leads starred in a drama was back in 2016 and it’s a pretty interesting storyline as there’s a huge age gap between the both leads so I wonder how the chemistry will fly but then again, both are really really good at acting so let’s see!
As per my usual arrangement, I will be blogging on the go and adding on to the list of filming locations, given that I have not given up on the drama. There were a couple of dramas this year and last year which I dropped halfway through and did not continue writing about them. Fingers crossed that the storyline is good enough for me to finish it!
Similar to the other big production dramas (like Descendants of the Sun, Goblin and Legends of the Blue Sea), there’s an overseas filming portion and this time round – it is all the way in Cuba, a country in a continent that I’ve never set foot on before. The only knowledge I know of Cuba is from my history textbook and the place called ‘Havana’ from the song. Oops.
As the drama is still filming, the locations that I have indicated below could be from fan accounts or other sources. When the actual episode is aired and I am able to match the scene to the location, I will do up the screenshot + provide the address and the usual stuff like all my other posts so please do bear with me =)
[Update: 27 Jan 2019] I’m finally done with the drama and to be honest, I was watching at a speed of x1.5 and x2 for most episodes. The starting was lovely with the scene in Cuba and all that but I really felt that the development was a little on the slow side. Nevertheless, the acting was really good; oh wells, expected from the two strong leads but the scriptwriter could have made it a little more exciting. I’ve tried to do screencaptures for most of the filmspots that I can find and should there be any that I’ve missed out – feel free to leave a comment below so I can update. Once again, should you be visiting these locations, I would be glad if you can return to my blog post and share with me your tips and experience in visiting these places! Your feedback would be valuable to the future readers.
Now that I’m done with Encounter & Memories of Alhambra – any recommendations for my next drama? Preferably a drama with pretty filming locations =p

Episode 2
[Playground supposedly at Hongjae-dong]
Address: 54-1 Gyeongin-ro 268beon-gil, Dohwa 1(il)-dong, Nam-gu, Incheon, South Korea
인천광역시 미추홀구 경인로268번길 54-1
I am not sure if this playground is currently accessible as it was previously barricaded for filming purpose according to korean blog DreamLatte and that area was only slated to open to public on 31st Jan 2019. No one knows if the playground is actually gonna be there permanently or it was just created as a film set. Should you be making a visit to this place – do update me on whether this playground is accessible alright? For accuracy, do copy and paste the korean address into Google maps.
It seems like it is accessible from Dohwa Station (Line 1) but the walk there may be a little on the hilly side.

Episode 3
[Lotte Resort Sokcho @ Sokcho]
Address: 186 Daepohang-gil, Daepo-dong, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do, South Korea
강원도 속초시 대포동 대포항길 186
This is an actual hotel location (see booking details) at a very scenic spot in Sokcho. The price ranges around $200-300 SGD but given the huge facility with water slides, it seems like a very fun place to stay for a family. There’s even an indoor water theme park and you can find more details from their official website: https://www.lotteresortsokcho.com/en/
Episode 4
[RaRaMuRi (망상해변) @ Jeongdongjin, Gangneung]
Address: 491-1 Jeongdongjin-ri Gangdongmyeon Gangneung-si Gangwon-do
강원도 강릉시 강동면 정동진리 491-1
When the scene first appeared in the drama, I thought that it looked rather familiar because of that peculiar lamp post and it turns out to be the same filming location as ‘The Legend of the Blue Seas’ where I blogged about previously in 2016.
The owner of the place has also done some picture compilations for this drama on his naver site: https://blog.naver.com/xurykim/221414027029
Really want to visit this place some day!
Episode 5

This estate seems pretty interesting and the art painting display seems to be legit and it runs along the stream which has a cycling and running track.
The Hongjecheon is a stream that flows towards the Hangang River and if you walk alongside the stream, you may even spot a waterfall (see IG: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh0xKyRB88i/) which I felt was really cool~~

Episode 9
[CGV Bupyeong @ Incheon]
This was the same location as Goblin! When I was watching, I thought that the seats looked a little familiar and turns out to be – it is the same location. I guess the tvN crew loves repeating filming locations. And wow, they are sitting at the same seat number – 6 and 7!
Address: 489 Majang-ro, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, South Korea
Movie Theater @ 6th Floor
[Simgok Harbour @ Gangneung]
Address: Gangneung-si, Gangdong-myeon, 심곡항 강릉시 강동면
This place is somewhat nearer to Jeongdongjin Station and it is pretty much along the road of the scenic coastal drive along Heonhwa-ro. Hope to get the chance to have a road trip around Korea but I guess it’s pretty hard to achieve that wish.

경기도 고양시 일산동구 장항동 호수로 595
There’s a path that is lined with Metasequoia Trees (aka Dawn redwood) and it seems very popular as several places in Korea have this road lined with these trees too. The popular one is in Damyang

This cafe (Gaebbul Museum & Coffee) was along the stretch of them walking up the flight of stairs in the final scene.
Address: 9-245 Ihwa-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, South Korea
To find this exact mural, look for the number 57 along Yulgok-ro-19-gil road. Otherwise, the address above should work on google maps.

Don’t forget to share with me your tips and experiences when you do visit these places 😀
We are planning to go to seoul this december 28 and hopefully can visit their shooting location.I will wait for your updates 😊
Thanks for leaving a comment! I hope to be able to work on this soon but at the same time I’m also distracted by Hyun Bin’s new drama too.. hehe.. do check back again =)
I want to know the filming location of the Ep5, bridge gallery (paintings under the bridge) where Park Bo Gum and Song Hye Gyo met. I think it may be near Yeouido? I want to go there. 🙂
Hello! The place is located at Hongjecheon Stream. I don’t have time to blog about it yet but I’ve found some websites with information:
http://english.visitseoul.net/attractions/Hongjecheon-Stream_/24003
http://untroddenroads.blogspot.com/2012/11/hongjecheon-hongje-stream.html
We will be going to seoul a week after yours. Do update us on the locations especially the ones on Episode 8! 🙂
I’ve not watched episode 8 yet but i’ll update when i know of the locations =)
Hi… what about in Ep 8, the “grass field” where Jinhyeok said he loves to go there to snap the photo of “wind”?
Do you know where it is?
And I really want to know where Jinhyeok’s playground is located.
Please share if you know.
p/s: I’ll be coming to Seoul in early Jan 2019. Can’t wait!!
I’ve not watched episode 8 yet~~ will update my post when I can.
With regards to the playground, I’m not sure where it is but I found a site in Korean saying that the playground has been cordoned off for filming purposes as the drama filming is still on-going. I guess they will only reveal the location after the filming is completed.
Do you know the filming location of the hotel that Song Hye Kyo and Park Bo gum are working? I am planning on staying at that Hotel when we visit Korea spring next year. I am a big Song Hye Kyo Fan since she debut in Autumn in my heart. I love this drama I am happy that the female lead is a strong, independent, rich and influential women and not the male lead like they do in most KDramas. I can always feel the pain of Soo Hyun while watching the drama. How she is became mistreated, sold and need to be perfect for others sake and how she just want to be happy and spread her wings and be free.
Hey~ a lot of scenes were filmed at the Lotte Hotel Chain. For the Sokcho Hotel, it is Lotte Resort Sokcho. More photos can be found here: https://m.post.naver.com/viewer/postView.nhn?volumeNo=17363366&memberNo=1173815
For the one in Seoul, there’s a number of exterior scenes filmed at lotte hotel at myeongdong but i’m not 100% sure.
good luck on your trip to Seoul in spring! hope you get to enjoy yourselves =D
OhMy God!! These are good! This drama really capture my heart and make me planning to list down to place that they went so that i will go there when the time comes. Unfortunately, i don’t know the place because i am not familiar with korea place. Luckily, i found this blog and really helps me.
Thanks for sharing these locations! Any idea where the playground in hongjae-dong is?
hey! the playground is actually not in hongjae-dong, but it is somewhere in incheon.
i haven’t had time to translate the address: 인천광역시 미추홀구 경인로268번길 54-1
will update this post when i have the time!
54-1 Gyeongin-ro 268beon-gil, Dohwa 1(il)-dong, Nam-gu, Incheon, South Korea
Don’t know if this is correct translation.
I will check on your post every now and then since I have plans to go SK in May. Thank you for the info you’ve shared.
Hi there, I’ve updated the address in my post already. Please note that this playground may be just a film set and it may be demolished now that the filming is done.. we will have to await for updates from other people who have visited this place.
this is a very late comment..
i’ve been there last May
the playground was demolished already.
I took a bus to the painting under the bridge location, the bus stop called Hongnamgyo Bicycle Rental Shop . ID 13-227 Walk straight 3 minutes and u can see the location already.
Thanks for sharing.. is the painting still there? I thought it was just featured in the drama and it has been taken down already..
Hi…
From where did you take the bus that will stop at Hongnamgyo bicycle rental shop?…thanks.
Hello. You mention that the Hotel Nacional was used in Cuba. This hotel is about the older and has no balcony. I rather think they used the hotel Kempinsky which is close to the Capitol and has the type of balcony needed for the kissing scene
so I was going around and I found this post, very interesting by the way … and I thought, I don’t think there is anything wrong if i comment, although I doubt anyone cares at this point… you are right, these scenes were filmed in two different hotels here in Cuba, they used interiors of the National Hotel, such as the immense lobby that appears in the series, and for the room and the balcony they used, as it seems to me from the angle of the visuals, the Saratoga Hotel, which is on the corner of Prado and Dragones, one block away from the Capitolio, wich you can see in the background … Is not like The Nacional Hotel does not have balconies, but it does not have views of the Capitolio…. they are also in different municipalities, the Capitol is in Centro Habana and the Nacional Hotel in Vedado…. Hope it helps
Hi. You mention that hotel Nacional was used for filming while I think it could have been to host the actors & staff as this hotel is about the oldest and has no balcony. I would rather suggest that the hotel Kempinsky which is close to the Capitole and has the type of balcony needed for the kissing scene.
Hi there. Thanks for your comment! I’m not 100% sure of the locations of which hotels appearing in which scenes as I did not do a full research on its Cuba locations. At the same time.. It’s been a while since I last watched the drama and I can’t seem to recall exactly where were the features in Cuba. Nevertheless, thanks for your comments and I hope that someone will be able to assist for more Cuba locations =) Thanks!

Just wondering if you knew anything about the mural of a woman they show in episode 1: min 9:00. Shes looking at it in a mag on the airplane, then transitions to the actual mural in cuba with park bo gum. And he has it as a screensaver on his phone when they listen to music on the wall… I cant find any info on that mural at all.
Hi Rachel, I’m not sure about that as I’m not familiar with Cuba. I’ll leave your comment open. Hopefully someone will come along and advise some time in the future =)
I suppose it is the mural they are talking about on this blog https://koreandramaland.com/encounter-boyfriend-2018-19-all-filming-locations/amp/, although I don’t remember it … the one with the face of a woman with a yellow scarf on her head … personally, I haven’t seen it, I don’t know where it is, but it is a representation of the cover of the album “Siempre” by Omara Portuondo, a renowned Cuban singer, representative of part of our culture and roots… it was a very beautiful way to symbolize Cuban’s culture in a foreign series, also her song “Si llego a besarte” is part of Encounter’s OST.
What mural is featured in havana min 9 of episode 1?
Just want to post this, it’s 2023..and I haven’t had a chance to visit South Korea and the scenes that they film. Hopefully one day I able to visit all the scenes and places that they film before as I really really love the drama and…hopefully the scenes and places won’t change alot when I have the chance to visit it. Love from Malaysia 🇲🇾❤️
Thanks for leaving a comment. Hope you get to visit South Korea one day!
Hay, I was at the house where he lived with his parents and his brother. They’re going to demolish that house, the whole neighborhood will leave. Still on display for a few months.
Thanks for sharing 🙂
